Richard Moffett

Here are two incredibley rare, incredibly beautiful, incredibley perfect 1980’s KT Les Paul replicas. These handcrafted masterpieces were built in Maryland by a team of Pre-PRS boutique luthiers Mike Koontz and John Thurston sometime in the early 1980’s.

Richard Moffett

1995 Lip Stick Red Fender Strat Plus

Richard Moffett

I just bought this Strat Plus a week or so ago so these are not very good pictures. 1995 was the next to last year of production. The nut is great with ball bearings for the strings to roll thru. The knobs are from a different Strat Plus and i don’t have a whammy bar for it yet. It sounds great and plays nice.

Original Hofner Beatle Bass

Richard Moffett

Over the years I’ve featured some iconic basses from my collection. Here is one that I wish I had. Hofner pioneerd the Violin Style Bass in the early 60’s, Similar in syle to the original Gibson EB bass in an earlier post of mine. Of course you and I, even my oldest daughter could recognize who played the Hofner bass. The Beatle bass featured here was in for repairs at CAMPBELL’S MUSIC SERVICE. I just couldn’t help snapping a few shots of it.

What were they thinking??

Richard Moffett

We’ve all made mistakes. This feature is an early ’80’s Pink Gibson SG With 2 single coils, a humbucking pickup and a Kahler tremolo in shocking pink! Surprisingly, it’s a great feeling and sounding SG. Owned by one of my students. Great find ehh?

Fender '62 Re-issue Jazz Bass Medium Scale

Richard Moffett

I have been searching for a Mustang Bass or Musicmaster Bass with the medium scale length for months now, but the prices just didn’t seem realistic. Well, problem solved. I just found this 1962 Re-issue Fender Jazz Bass imported direct from Japan with a medium scale neck! This model is not for sale in the US and was sent over from a dealer in Japan called IshiBashi. It’s weight and 30″ scale is perfect for me. The quality equals or surpasses most American Fenders that I’ve seen lately and the Re-issue is as accurate as can be.

1950’s Fender Champ Lap Steel in original Tweed case

Richard Moffett

One of my favorite sounding lap steels. I bought it from Bob Campbell Sr. many moons ago. It has a Fender Mustang looking pickup that really sings, right out of the case. My “Go To” Lap Steel. It’s pictured with even an older Fender Electro steel signed in the body cavity by Leo himself. (As with all posts, Click the Pic to enlarge.

Two Out of the Ordinary Rickenbackers

Richard Moffett

Friend and fellow musician, Craig N Wise revealed to me recently that he too, has a passion for Rickenbacker guitars. In fact, he owns two unusually colored 360’s.

The white on black 360/12 string has faded nicely into a cream color. The combined black hardware really sets it off. It is from the very early 1990’s.

The 360/6 string is Autumn Glow, one of only 50 made in 1982. Thanks Craig for the pics of your great guitars!

1985 Telecaster Custom, Candy Apple Red

Richard Moffett

From 1984 to 1987 Japan made re-issues are as historically accurate as can be. I should know, as I’ve owned both the original American made 60’s guitars that they are modeled after and the re-issues that I collect now. As Fender ceased US production in the mid 80’s to move from Fullerton to Corona, CA, the Japanese re-issues were shipped here to meet demands. Pictured here are 3 Tele’s from that era. The red ’85 is new to me and is very hot with Schaller pickups and a 6 piece heavy mass bridge that rings true.

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

Richard Moffett

Picked up this mint Hot Rod Deluxe last week with new  Groove Tubes and a Cannabis Rex speaker. 40 watts, all tube, two channels plus boost. Very rocking amp!

Jeff Beck Stratocasters

Richard Moffett

Jeff Beck was Fender’s inspiration for one of my favorite guitar models, the Strat Plus. Original models featured Lace Sensor pickups, roller nut and DuPont racing colors! Pictured here, courtesy of  Jerry Maislish (left) and Ryan McGurk (right), are two Surf Green models. The ten year age difference shows the aging of the paint and the evolution of the model from a double coil switchable lace sensor in the lead position to all Fender Noiseless single coils. The necks are “Wide/Fats” and both play and sound like a dream.

“Mary Kay” style Strat Plus Deluxe

Richard Moffett

Here’s one I’d love to own. Another sweet guitar from the collection of student and friend Jerry Maizlish. “See thru” off white Blonde ’93 Strat Plus Deluxe with red, black and gold Lace Sensor pickups. Drop-Dead minty condition. One of the prettiest I’ve never owned!

New Pedal Board effects and design

Richard Moffett

Designed and built for me by Seth Connors, includes Jangle Box compressor, Fulltone, Fulldrive 3, Mooer Mod Factory (11 in one effects), Mooer Analog Delay, ART A/B switch and Antique Laxative box. Photo #3 Cmatmods Deluxe Compressor, Photo #4 EH Soul Food for mini-travel board.

2001 SG and 2005 Historic Re-issue Les Paul/SG

Richard Moffett

Two of Gibson’s Greatest… Not much more to say. Thanks again to my friend/student, Jerry Maizlish for the re-issue.

2001 Gibson Hummingbird

Richard Moffett

I was looking through guitars I haven’t played for a while and realized that I never even featured one of the nicest sounding guitars I own. So here goes… This 2001 a Gibson Hummingbird was bought slightly used by me in 2005. It features an LR Baggs acoustic element pickup, which I love, but it sounds even better unplugged. My “Go To” acoustic for special occasions. It plays like a dream too.
